aka Day Three in (outside of...) Hobart
aka The Day we Found a Lost Baby Lamb and Tried to Rescue It
Abel Tasman, if you couldn't tell, is the island's namesake. Originally called Van Diemen's land, after the Lord Something Whosiwhatsit ruling at the time of discovery, the state was renamed in an effort to shed its shady past. As you probably know, Australia was founded as a convict state - inveterate drunkards, bandits, rapists, etc were shipped off to Aussie to start anew. After touching down in this hemisphere, repeat offenders were sent to Tassie; specifically, the area we were driving around yesterday.
Cool rock formations, the penal fortress Port Arthur, a convict-operated coal mine, the rolling countryside - all of these sights were quickly overshadowed by a lost lamb we found at the mine's car park, nuzzling our Suzuki Swift.
Trying to coax our new friend with bits of our lunch...
Success!!!
Oh yeah... and all the other stuff we saw yesterday...
